CONTROL BY A FEW:

Lee-Scott Academy is another example of control by a few in Lee County. From our City governments of Auburn and Opelika, to our Lee County Commission to our institutions such as Auburn University and even our hospital who are unfortunately controlled by only a few through the various rotation of board members of these entities while ignoring public and constitutional rights and overall community needs.

In 1981, two independent schools, Lee Academy of Auburn and Scott Preparatory School of Opelika, merged to become Lee-Scott Academy. The strong traditions of academic excellence and emphasis on Christian values of both schools continue as the hallmarks of Lee Scott Academy.

WHAT HAPPENED TO LEE-SCOTT ACADEMY PARENTAL VOTING RIGHTS….

On May 7th 2025 the East Alabama Examiner, with over 5,000 views “reported that Attorney Ryan P. Robichaux of the Bradley law firm made remarks to the Lee-Scott Academy Executive Committee on behalf of the student families, said

“Legally, our position is clear, parental voting rights was a cornerstone issue for the school since its founding. Parents enjoyed this right until 2012, when the voting rights were unlawfully removed.”

“The school's governing documents at that time speak for themselves, and they were clear that the voting rights could not be removed without

(1) proper notice to the parents,

(2) a vote by the parents to remove them.

There is no evidence that either occurred. In fact, the amendment that removed parental voting rights clearly states that a board vote occurred instead of a vote of the parents, and there are members of the 2012 board who can testify to this.”

“Unfortunately, all of these benefits were lost when the voting rights were removed in 2012. Today, parents have no oversight, and no meaningful way to influence the Board or the Administration.

“The founders were wise and understood the benefits of providing parents with meaningful oversight. Specifically, parental voting rights provide the following benefits: limited authority, more accountability and representation, more engagement and unity, more transparency, and less risk.”

Behind every child who believes in himself is a parent believed in them first.

I just want to say, it is sad when school parents rights are ignored in order to give the board total dictatorial power over the school and its students.

I personally, after being in Auburn for 10 years this coming July, have learned how our city and county governments with our institution operate and its not pretty.

You can make a real difference.
