On February 5, 2024 Secretary of State Wes Allen addressed the Alabama Probate Judges Association at their annual winter conference in Opelika, AL.
Secretary Allen began by thanking probate judges for their important work as the chief elections officials of their respective counties.
“As Secretary of State and a former probate judge, I will always support our hardworking election officials across the state and ensure they have everything they need to administer the safest and most secure elections in the country,” said Secretary Allen.
Secretary Allen discussed election integrity and the establishment of the Alabama Voter Integrity Database (AVID).
“Safe, secure, and transparent elections are the foundation of our constitutional republic,” said Secretary Allen. “AVID is a four-prong system that my team and I spent the better part of a year developing to help us maintain the cleanest and most accurate registered voter list in the country.”
Secretary Allen also shared about the recent launch of the Heroes at the Polls initiative. This initiative is designed to recruit veterans to attend poll worker training and serve as poll workers in upcoming elections.
“Poll workers are essential members of the election administration team. They work hard from sun up to sun down on election day at every polling place across our state. The integrity, patriotism, and strong work ethic required for military service make our veterans ideal candidates to serve as poll workers.” said Secretary Allen.
Wes Allen is Alabama’s 54th Secretary of State. The Secretary of State is Alabama’s Chief Elections Official. Additionally, Alabama law gives the Secretary of State more than 1,000 different duties.
