OPELIKA, ALA. — BamaCarry and the National Association for Gun Rights PAC announced their joint endorsement of Cam Hunt for Lee County Sheriff in the 2026 election, citing his unwavering commitment to the Second Amendment and the rights of law-abiding citizens. Hunt, a former Auburn University graduate, Marine, and deputy sheriff, has earned the support of Alabama’s leading gun rights organizations for his opposition to gun control policies and his firm defense of Constitutional Carry and the Second Amendment.
“This race is a clear choice between a candidate who respects the Constitution and one who has actively worked against it,” said Linda McKinney, President of BamaCarry. “Cam Hunt understands that the right to self-defense is fundamental. Unlike his opponent, who aligned himself with the establishment gun control lobby to oppose Constitutional Carry, Cam Hunt will defend the Second Amendment without compromise.”
Hunt’s record stands in contrast to incumbent Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones, who in 2022 publicly testified in uniform against Constitutional Carry as permitless carry legislation advanced through the Alabama Legislature.
“Cam Hunt is the only 100% pro-gun candidate in this race,” said Taylor Rhodes, spokesman for the National Association for Gun Rights PAC. “While the current sheriff used his office to oppose Constitutional Carry, Cam Hunt stands shoulder to shoulder with law-abiding gun owners. A sheriff’s job is to uphold the Constitution, not lobby against it.”
The Alabama statewide primary election will be held May 19, 2026, when voters in Lee County will choose their next sheriff.
“The National Association for Gun Rights PAC proudly endorses Cam Hunt because he doesn’t just talk about defending the Second Amendment, he has lived it and fought for it,” Rhodes continued. “Lee County deserves a sheriff who will protect constitutional rights, not lobby against them.”
BamaCarry and the National Association for Gun Rights PAC urged Lee County voters who value the Constitution and individual liberty to support Cam Hunt for sheriff.

BamaCarry is a grassroots Second Amendment advocacy organization made up of members from across the State of Alabama, dedicated to defending the right of law-abiding citizens to keep and bear arms. Founded in 2012, BamaCarry led the fight to enact Constitutional Carry and other pro-gun reforms in Alabama, working to hold elected officials accountable and protect individual liberty across the state.
The National Association for Gun Rights’ Political Action Committee (PAC) endorses and raises money to be used for candidates who are committed to the fight against gun control while expanding and furthering Second Amendment rights and protections in the United States. NAGR PAC also uses its funds to defeat candidates who support gun control and seek to undermine the freedoms embodied in the Second Amendment.
